Even in his late 30s, Lampard, who has a house in Surrey, would seem to bring a guarantee of goals - something that Palace could desperately do with.

Skybet offer odds of just 5/2 that Lampard - pictured in New York with Eagles owner Steve Parish in November - will sign for Palace before September 3, 2017.

How Eagles fans would like to see some signings to rival the likes of Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff and Fernando Hierro from Big Sam's Bolton days.

Ending up on the South Coast with Championship high-flyers Brighton is seen as slightly more likely, with odds of 9/4 being offered.

With Oscar leaving for China, the Blues will be looking for a midfielder with the ability to bag goals.

Lampard on a short-term contract and coming off the bench to score some crucial goals remains a possibility, nonethless.
