Armenian international stunned Old Trafford with incredible goal before Olivier Giroud scored a scorpion kick of his own less than a week later
HENRIKH MKHITARYAN has been awarded December Goal of the Month for his stunning scorpion kick against Sunderland.
The Armenian international mesmerised fans at Old Trafford by scoring a flying backheel during Man United's 3-1 win over the Black Cats.
After being frozen out in his early months at Old Trafford, the £30m signing from Dortmund took the Premier League by storm in December.
Mkhitaryan has been so impressive that United fans voted him first, second and third in the club's Goal of the Month competition.
Unsurprisingly, the scorpion kick came top of both the club and Premier League poll.
In second place was his winner against Tottenham, followed by his first strike for the club away to Zorya Luhansk.
But it turned out Premier League scorpion kicks were a bit like public buses when Olivier Giroud repeated the feat less than a week later against Crystal Palace at the Emirates.
Many felt that the Arsenal star's goal was even better than Mkhitaryan's.
Any Gunners fans foaming at the mouth over Mkhitaryan's December award need not get so worked up as their French target man's scorpion kick was scored on New Year's Day.
And it will take one incredible strike to stop Giroud winning the January gong.
