The Hornets have slumped massively in recent weeks after an impressive start to the season, but club chiefs are determined to back boss Walter Mazzarri.

The move for the 29-year-old striker is not the only piece of business they are prepared to push through to help the manager turn around their form.

Another forward is believed to be on the wanted list after the club already completed a loan move for Tom Cleverley last week.

Mazzarri has struggled to learn the language since taking over the helm at Vicarage Road.

He has also has a crippling injury list to contend with.

Watford have struggled for goals this season but they hope the arrival of Zarate will help to solve that problem.

They have also been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Max Gradel.
