Schmeichel believes United will pip City to a Champions League spot because Guardiola is not up for the challenge.

But Schmeichel was full of praise for Jose Mourinho by claiming he now understands what it takes to manage Manchester United.

When asked who would make the top four he said: "To be completely honest, I think Man United.

"Mourinho has found the groove and he understands now what to do with his football club and the players he has brought in are slightly starting to gel and produce the football and results that we need at Man United."
