CHELSEA placed on hand firmly on the Premier League title thanks to Marcos Alonso's controversial strike and a moment of genius from Eden Hazard.

Alonso got the Blues off to a flying start as he nodded home in the 13th-minute, after Diego Costa's bullet header rebounded off the bar and into his path with Petr Cech stranded.

That contender for goal of the season knocked the stuffing out of Arsenal with Chelsea still looking the more likely to score until the final kick - with former Gunner Cesc Fabregas rubbing salt into the wound with a 25-yard chip past Cech after a woeful clearance.

The loss essentially ended the Gunners' title bid, with Chelsea firmly placing one hand on the trophy.

"I enjoyed the game and the goals. We scored three beautiful goals and we deserve to win this game."

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill: "Fantastic. In football you get opportunities to put things right. I remember walking off after defeat at Arsenal. I felt like a bit of a mug after that game.

"We could have had more goals. Eden scored a special goal. For me that killed the game. We put ourselves in a great position. We knew today was important for that."
