Euro 2016 winner Rui Patricio admits he ‘does not know’ if his future lies at Sporting Lisbon as Watford eye bid

Hornets scouts have been watching Portuguese goalkeeper as Walter Mazzarri searches for Heurelho Gomes replacement

RUI PATRICIO has hinted at a move away from Sporting Lisbon - as Watford eye a shock move for the Euro 2016 winner.

scouts watched the Portuguese side’s 2-0 win over Estoril on Saturday, with the keeper believed to be the main focus of their attentions.

And Patricio, 29 – who has been at Sporting since he was 12 – admits he “does not know” if his future lies at the club.

“It is rare to see today that a player has been playing for the same club for so many years. I already have seventeen years of club.

“Do I think about finishing my career at Sporting? These are things we cannot control.”

Patricio has made over 400 appearances for Sporting since making his debut in 2006 and has earned 56 caps for Portugal.

It is understood the experienced shot-stopper – who was voted the best No1 in the Euros – will be available for as little as £6million in the summer.

He was linked with moves to Everton and Manchester City after starring as his nation shocked hosts France to lift the trophy in Paris last July.

But Watford now appear to be in pole position as Walter Mazzarri chases a long-term replacement for ageing Heurelho Gomes.
