FERNANDO TORRES claims he is A-OK after suffering a nasty head injury during a match on Thursday night.
Fans and teammates watched in horror as the Atletico Madrid striker was knocked out cold after colliding with Deportivo La Coruna’s Alejandro Bergantinos during the 1-1 La Liga draw.
But after being whisked away to the local hospital, Torres soon posted a much-awaited update on social media in a bid to soothe distressed supporters.
He tweeted: “Thank you all for caring for me and for your messages of encouragement. It was just a scare. I hope to return very soon!”
Doctors backed up the statement by confirming Torres is ‘stable, conscious and lucid’, with scans showing ‘no traumatic alterations or injuries’.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone admits he feared the worst, telling reports in his post-match press conference he was ‘worried and nervous’.
Simeone stated: “We heard the blow from the bench, we saw how he fell and we were afraid. We didn’t know if that noise was Fernando’s neck or not.”
