Fernando Torres: Atletico Madrid star cheers on teammates in 3-0 win over Valencia just days after horror head injury

Spaniard was left unconscious following nasty collision against Deportivo but was released from hospital the very next day

FERNANDO TORRES was cheered by fans as he watched his beloved Atletico Madrid cruise to a 3-0 win over Valencia on Sunday afternoon.

The striker was in the Vicente Calderon stands just days after suffering a horrific head injury in the draw against Deportivo La Coruna.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea star was knocked out cold when he clashed heads with Alejandro Bergantinos on Thursday evening.

Torres then landed on his neck and teammates rushed to prevent the veteran from swallowing his tongue before an ambulance rushed him to hospital.

The tense few minutes on the pitch were made worse by a section of cruel Deportivo Ultras singing songs about Torres dying.

But a number of scans at the hospital thankfully showed he had not suffered any traumatic damage, with the player himself quickly taking to social media to flash a thumbs-up.

Torres was then released the following morning and seemed like he didn’t have a care in the world, even telling concerned Bergantinos to ‘be calm’ when the devastated Deportivo man came to visit.

And Torres received nothing less than a hero’s welcome when he ventured out to Atletico’s soon-to-be former stadium.

Griezmann put the Spanish giants ahead after just ten minutes, with Gameiro doubling his side’s advantage three minutes into the second half.

Griezmann then made sure of the result with a goal in the 83rd minute, leaving Atletico hanging on to fourth place by one point ahead of Real Sociedad and two over Villarreal.
