WHITE HART KANE

Teddy Sheringham delivers his verdict on Harry Kane: He’s lucky he won’t have to leave Tottenham like I did

Says treble-winner Sheri: 'There’s no need for Harry to go. The way the club is going, it could be the biggest in London'

TEDDY SHERINGHAM says Harry Kane can do what he could not - stay at Spurs and fulfil his dreams.

Two-time Tottenham star Sheringham quit White Hart Lane in 1997, frustrated by the club’s lack of ambition, and went on to win the Treble - and more - with Manchester United.

But he believes this is the most exciting time at Spurs for 25 YEARS. And Kane has no need to join the club’s stars who left in search of trophies.

Sheringham, 50, said: “Tottenham wasn’t a stepping stone for me.

“I wanted to get to Tottenham and have what Harry Kane has got now. This has to be the most exciting time at Spurs since Terry Venables. There’s no need for Harry to go anywhere else.

“The way the club is going, it could be the biggest in London.

“Why would he want to go to Manchester, Barcelona or Real Madrid, when everything is here for him?

“Dele Alli, exactly the same — performing at the top of his game, a regular for England.

“They don’t need to leave to win trophies. You don’t have to go anywhere else when Tottenham are progressing."

Kane, who extended his Tottenham contract to 2022 in December, already has 68 goals in 105 Premier League appearances.

If he stays at Spurs, or at least in English football, Sheringham thinks he can challenge the record of 260 goals set by his former Three Lions strike partner Alan Shearer.

The main obstacle to such a feat could be the fact that, in Sheri’s eyes, Kane is a more complete striker and player than either he or Shearer was.

Sheringham said: “He’s got everything I had and more.

“And he’s got everything Shearer had and more.

“Harry might not be the phenomenal scorer yet that Shearer was.

“But in his all-round game, he has more awareness. A touch more of a team player.

"Shearer would never pass to me like I passed to him or Harry passes to Dele Alli!

“Shearer’s Premier League record could be in danger. Harry has started young enough scoring goals.”
