'I don't even like football'

Neil Taylor is hammered on Twitter after breaking Seamus Coleman’s leg… but it is an ex councillor taking the brunt of the abuse

Defender's horror tackle broke the Everton star's leg but abuse over social media has gone to the wrong man

NEIL TAYLOR is being bombarded on Twitter after Seamus Coleman's horrific leg break.

But it's an ex Liberal Democrat councillor taking the abuse not the Welsh defender.

They share the same name and unfortunately the man who openly says "I don't even like football" received hatred after the World Cup qualifier.

Despite being hammered on social media, Taylor handled the abuse with humour and even posted a photo of his head edited on to the footballer's body in a Wales shirt.

On the evening of the 0-0 draw, the ex councillor tweeted to say he had enjoyed a curry, red wine and beer before realising he was at the centre of a hate campaign.

Fans took to Twitter to vent their frustration at the Aston Villa defender after his challenge led to Coleman having surgery.

A lot of the tweets directed at the footballer, which were instead sent to the wrong man, cannot be published as the majority of them are scattered with expletives.

But we have compiled a few that are clean of swear words, with one user saying he should be ashamed for the tackle he did not commit.

Following Coleman's injury, his international boss Martin O'Neill said doctors are "very pleased" after doing surgery on the right back.

The Everton star is expected to be out for at least six months after being carried off on a stretcher whilst receiving oxygen.

His club team-mate Ross Barkley and others on social media have shown their support to Coleman since his injury.
