Atletico Madrid join Manchester United and Man City in £25million pursuit of Monaco’s midfield star Fabinho

Should a Fifa-imposed transfer ban for breaking youth player regulations be lifted, the Rojiblancos will move for Brazilian

ATLETICO MADRID have made Manchester City target Fabinho their No.1 summer transfer objective, according to reports in Spain.

The Rojiblancos are still waiting on the outcome over the appeal over a transfer ban imposed on the club by Fifa for breaking regulations on signing youth players.

Should they have the suspension lifted,  report Monaco’s £25million-rated Brazilian midfielder will be the first player Diego Simeone makes a move for.

He left for Monaco in 2015, but it is in this campaign where he has truly come to the fore.

At the Bernabeu, he played predominantly as a right-back.

But, following in the Philipp Lahm mould, he was moved to defensive midfield and has become a massive part of Monaco’s success this season.

Kylian Mbappe’s goals have stolen the headlines, but Fabinho has been such a key element in central midfield.

His performances have alerted Pep Guardiola, while Jose Mourinho — who gave him his professional debut at Real Madrid — would also be keen to work with him again.

Simeone is preparing to lose Tiago this summer.

And Fabinho would be a direct a replacement.

His contract at Monaco runs out in 2021 and his agent, Jorge Mendes, enjoys a great working relationship with Atletico directors.
