MANCHESTER CITY have completed the signing of £26.5million Danilo from Real Madrid on a five-year deal.

The 26-year-old has signed and has now joined his new team-mates on the club’s pre-season tour of America as Pep Guardiola continues his overhaul of City's full-backs.

Danilo said: “I am very, very happy to be joining Manchester City.

“There has been strong interest from other clubs, but it has always been my ambition to play for Pep Guardiola.

“As soon as I heard of his interest, I knew immediately I wanted to be a City player.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to getting to know my new team-mates over the coming weeks.”

City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, says he is delighted to have landed the Brazilian.

He said: “Danilo is a fine player who offers great versatility to our squad.

“He can operate in several different roles in both defence and midfield, increasing Pep’s options ahead of the new season.”

Danilo factfile

  • Born in Bicas, Brazil, in 1991
  • He played in the Brazilian league between 2009-11 with America-MG and later Santos
  • Won his first Brazil cap in September 2011 after shining for Santos
  • In 2012, moved to Portuguese giants Porto, where he went on to play 91 times in three seasons
  • Won two Primeira Ligas and the Portuguese Community Shield during while at the Estadio do Dragao
  • Signed for Real Madrid in a £28million transfer in 2015
  • In two years at the Bernabeu, won La Liga, two Champions Leagues, the Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Club World Cup

Danilo's transfer is still subject to a work permit, but that should be a foregone conclusion given his status as a Brazil international.

He formerly played with Neymar and Alex Sandro at Santos where they won the Copa Libertadores.

He then moved to Porto, where he won back-to-back Primera Liga titles, before becoming a target for Europe's top clubs and a move to the Bernabeu soon followed in 2015.

After two seasons and two Champions League titles he has become Guardiola's latest signing, taking their spending close to £200million for the summer.
