Southampton agree club record £19.1m fee for Monaco striker Guido Carrillo

The Argentine has scored five goals for Monaco this season.

Saints had an initial offer of £17.5m rejected but Pellegrino said: "We hope to have good news this week."

The fee eclipses the £18m the South Coast side paid Juventus for midfielder Mario Lemina in the summer.

Saints - who made £75m selling Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool - are also in talks with Spartak Moscow over a swoop for £30m rated Dutch winger Quincy Promes.

Pellegrino may not get to see much of the new signings after becoming favourite in the Premier League sack race.

Marco Silva could be handed an immediate return with the ex-Watford chief linked with the post.

Heads up Southampton fans - Guido Carrillo maybe the answer?

But that would not put off Southampton, who vied with Crystal Palace and Watford to sign up the highly-rated Portuguese boss after he left relegated Hull last summer.

Leading figures in the St Mary’s hierarchy are still hankering after Silva, especially with their team in the bottom three.
