Newcastle forward Islam Slimani banned for rest of season after accepting violent conduct charge

Algerian has played final Toon game after kicking West Brom's Craig Dawson during Saturday's 1-0 defeat

ISLAM SLIMANI has played his last game for Newcastle after being banned for the rest of the season.

The Newcastle striker, 29, accepted a charge of violent conduct for kicking West Brom's Craig Dawson during Saturday's 1-0 defeat.

He was caught on camera lashing out after referee David Coote missed the incident.

The FA have given the Leicester loanee a three-game suspension.

Algeria forward Slimani argued the ban was excessive but it was rejected by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

He will therefore head back to the King Power this summer having played just 130 minutes during his loan spell on Tyneside.

And with his £2million loan fee and £80,000-a-week wages, Slimani will go down as one of Newcastle’s most expensive ever flops.

He joined the Toon on January deadline day but a thigh injury ruled him out until the end of March.

Slimani has since made three substitute appearances and started one game, scoring no goals and providing just one assist.

The £29million hitman had been hoping to convince Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez to make his loan move permanent.

Yet he will now return to the King Power fighting for his Foxes future and could find himself having to move away from England this summer.
