Pep Guardiola wants Premier League rule change after losing Claudio Bravo and Kevin De Bruyne

He admits he would have looked to buy a keeper to cover for Bravo instead of recalling youngster Aro Muric from NAC Breda.

And Guardiola, 47, reckons clubs should be allowed to sign emergency players when they pick up early-season injuries.

He said: “The rules are the rules so maybe the federation can think about that when there are long, long injuries and it is still the period where the European window is open.

“Then maybe you could do it.

“Not just for the goalkeeper but when there are big big injuries to players.

“If we were not allowed to bring back Aro, I don’t know what would have happened.

“But here it is closed because it is good that the competition starts with the whole squad but maybe we could think about that, especially when the injuries are five or six months.”

Bravo picked up a serious Achilles injury in a behind-closed-doors friendly this week.

Guardiola was gutted after the Chile keeper barely touched the ball in the first 20 minutes of his first team having a run-out against reserves.

It’s match week 3 of the Premier League as Man Utd face down Spurs and Arsenal take on West Ham

But Bravo collected the ball and picked up the injury - leaving City in a keeper crisis after Joe Hart and Angus Gunn’s departures.

Guardiola confirmed he would have looked to sign an experienced No2 if he was allowed.

He added: “We would have considered it, that is true.

“We didn’t have any options. People were talking about us buying this player in Barcelona or this keeper in Madrid but it is not allowed so it makes no sense in that situation.

“We called the Premier League to know the situation but here the rules are the rules. They told us it is possible for him to come back and after that Aro came back.”

Pep Guardiola says his Manchester City side are still not fit despite stunning early season form

Ahead of today’s clash at Wolves, Guardiola says he is finally seeing Leroy Sane hit top form after struggling in pre-season.

Sane, on the bench for the first two games of the season, was dropped from the Germany squad for the World Cup and Pep was not happy with his work off the ball during the tour of USA.

Guardiola said: “You know about his performances in pre-season, he arrived late and now he is getting back like Leroy is.

“In the past two weeks in training I’ve seen the Leroy that I know and we know.

“In pre-season always the players are ‘okay, we’ll do it because it is pre-season’. But I have never complained about Leroy’s behaviour in the training sessions or matches.”
