CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN could face Wales on Sunday after the Danish FA reopened talks with the players' association in a bid to resolve their dispute.

The Tottenham ace and his Denmark team-mates missed last night's 3-0 friendly defeat in Slovakia and were replaced by lower league rookies and five-a-side players following the row over fees and commercial rights.

Ireland boss Martin O'Neill called on Uefa to intervene into the Nations League farce with his men set to face a major disadvantage in the three-team group.

But Danish FA chairman Jesper Moller gave hope a resolution could be found before the clash with the Welsh in Aarhus.

Moller said: "I will not rule out anything now. I'm a positive person and we are talking together. There is dialogue between the parties.

"The national team players want to play the match against Wales. There is a dispute about the commercial rights so we cannot just lean back in the chair and sign.

"But we are committed to making the best possible team against Wales."

While having the likes of Eriksen and Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel in the team would be preferable, there are many obstacles in the way even if an agreement is reached.

EUR IN THE KNOW How does the Nations League work?

The clubs are not obliged to release the players who have returned to their domestic duties in the last 24 hours.

Fifa international rules state the national association must ask for the release of the players 15 days before a fixture.

Denmark originally put their request in on August 20 which was granted but they would have to follow the same procedure again.

And the clubs across Europe are well within their rights to block any request from the Danes.

On top of that, the clubs will be concerned over the risk of injury to their stars who have not trained this week.
