And according to the Sunday People, the 27-year-old is being targeted by megabucks Chinese clubs once his Baggies deal is over.

Former Crystal Palace goalscorer Gayle has netted 29 times in 71 games for the Magpies but just six came in the Premier League.

And there are fears the speedster has found his level in the second tier with a number of clubs turning down the chance to sign him this summer.

An exit for Asia next summer may suit both parties with Toon able to recoup some money and Gayle in line for a huge payday.
