AC MILAN AND INTER MILAN will leave the San Siro and are bound for a new £512million stadium.

Discussions have been held over whether the 80,000-seater ground would be overhauled.

Seven-time European champions Milan have been keen on moving to pastures new and Inter are now on board, according to .

Plans for a new home must be put to the Municipality of Milan by the end of the month, and those proposals could be submitted as early as next week, with a move-in date in 2023 pencilled in.

The local authority are said to have already approved the proposition of a new 60,000 ground - which is understood to be modelled on the Metlife Stadium which hosts NFL teams the New York Giants and New York Jets.

Inter are set to give the move the green light.

I Nerazzurri chief-executive Alessandro Antonello said: "We’ve been working on this project with Milan and we believe that a stadium we both own would be crucial for the our growth.

"Inter and Milan have been working on the San Siro project for several months now. We still have work to do, but the time is ripe.

"Soon we’ll inform the city council of what choice the two clubs have made. The city of Milan needs a stadium on par with those of the biggest cities in Europe."

The new build will be located just metres from the San Siro and will include a 5,000-seater venue for music events and a shopping complex.

Both clubs will jointly finance the investment with a naming rights sponsor set to be sought, which could lead to £21million-per-year in additional revenue.

The Italian pair have shared the ground since 1947 when Inter moved in, with Milan having played there since 1926.
