Ribery set to join Xavi at Qatari club Al-Sadd with Bayern Munich contract set to end

Frenchman has spent 12 years at the club, winning eight league titles and the Champions League crown

FRANCK RIBERY is set to bring down the curtain on his 12-year spell at Bayern Munich once his contract expires this summer, according to reports.

The Frenchman will reportedly head to the Middle East to join Barcelona legend Xavi at Al Sadd.

Ribery, 36, was expected to leave Munich last summer, but eventually penned a new, one-year deal with the Bundesliga giants.

However he has been a peripheral figure at Allianz Arena this season, having grappled with a number of fitness issues.

The Frenchman has scored just five goals in the current campaign, but has failed to found the back of the net since December 22.

Ribery joined Bayern in 2007 and has featured in 420 games for the German side, bagging 122 goals and adding 183 assists.

He has won eight league titles in Germany and claimed the Champions League crown in the 2012/13.

That arguably was the best season of his career, which almost made him a Ballon d'Or winner.

But the Bayern hero controversially missed out on the award, which was handed to then-Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

And report that Ribery is now set to embark on a new adventure, heading to the Middle East to team up with Xavi at Al Sadd.

The Qatari club is currently third in the Stars League, trailing league leaders Al Rayyan by 15 points.

Bayern are planning a major squad overhaul this summer with other club legend Arjen Robben also set to leave Munich.

The Bundesliga giants have already signed Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid and Benjamin Pavon from Stuttgart for a combined total of £100million.
