Frank Lampard grabs lunch with Didier Drogba as Chelsea ‘open talks with legend over boss job’

FRANK LAMPARD enjoyed a reunion with Didier Drogba today in the capital as he begins talks over an emotional return to Chelsea.

Stamford Bridge chiefs have reportedly opened talks with the club’s all-time top goalscorer over him becoming their new manager.

The claim Blues officials are in discussions with Derby to thrash out a deal for the 40-year-old to replace Maurizio Sarri, who looks poised to join Juventus for £5m, in the dug-out.

While a full-time comeback to West London appears to be on the cards, Lampard was just down the road from his old stomping ground to have lunch with a fellow Chelsea icon earlier.

Drogba, wearing a cap back-to-front with a black jacket, was spotted meeting up with Lamps in Walton Street, just north of King’s Road.

And the Rams boss looked delighted to see his old team-mate, with whom he won three Premier League titles and the Champions League, again.

Despite only having a year of experience in management, Lampard is the favourite to land the Chelsea job.

He is held in high regard by Roman Abramovich due to his exploits on the pitch during his 13 years with the Blues.

And that admiration was strengthened even further this season after he guided Derby to the brink of a Prem return from the Championship.

Recently-departed Juve chief Max Allegri and Ajax’s Erik ten Hag are also believed to be in the running for the post at Chelsea.

But both have reservations over the looming Fifa transfer ban at the Bridge.

The club have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in a bid to get it overturned in order to give whoever takes over from Sarri an opportunity to bring in their own men.

And they will have plenty of dosh to spend after finalising the sale of Eden Hazard to Real Madrid last week in a deal that could rise to £130m.
