ROMELU LUKAKU flew home to Belgium immediately after Manchester United returned from their pre-season tour with his future close to being decided.

Lukaku and the rest of the United squad arrived back in the UK from Shanghai at the end of a trip which also saw them visit Australia and Singapore.

The 26-year-old then made his way straight across Manchester airport to departures for a short hop back to Belgium to enjoy a couple of days off.

Inter Milan are desperately trying to put together a £75million package to sign the United star - and are running out of time to get the deal over the line.

United have told the Serie A side they need to hurry up finding the money for the forward to give them time to sign a replacement before the transfer window closes on August 8.

Having been overseas for over a fortnight, Lukaku is spending time back at home after United decided he did not need to stay behind for any treatment on an injury.

The striker failed to play in any of the four friendlies, but SunSport revealed there was no serious injury and the decision had been taken for him to sit out matches so as not to jeopardise any transfer.

Lukaku is also due to catch up with agent Federico Pastorello over the next few days to discuss his situation.

Pastorello has been in Milan this week and any discussions they have are thought to be routine rather than because an offer has landed on the table.

Inter are trying to offload Mauro Icardi to help finance the Lukaku deal, and have told the controversial Argentian they will not reverse their decision to offload him.

Icardi has frustrated the club by stalling on potential moves to Napoli and Juventus in the belief he can convince Antonio Conte he does have a future at the San Siro.

Conte, however, has made it clear to his bosses that he does not want the forward in his squad this season - and told them to push through the Lukaku deal instead.
