Luiz proves that a leopard doesn’t change its spots as Arsenal lose to Liverpool

DAVID LUIZ showed why Frank Lampard was right to offload him following the Brazilian's second half shocker against Liverpool.

After an impressive performance against Burnley last week, there was talk that the 32-year-old will prove to be an inspired signing by Unai Emery.

But today's clash against the Reds was always going to be an indication of just how much he can improve the Gunners' defence.

Judging by this display? Not one bit.

Immediately after the break Luiz needlessly tugged on the shirt of Mohamed Salah after he spun the former Paris Saint-Germain defender.

The Egyptian made no mistake from the spot, before he once again left Luiz for dead to put Liverpool 3-0 up.

Receiving the ball deep in Arsenal's half, Salah skipped away from the 2016 Premier League winner with ease as the centre-back raced out to dispossess him.

Salah then burst into the box before casually curling his strike into the bottom corner.

It was revealed earlier in the week that Lampard had given Luiz a "b******ing" for his performance against Red Bull Salzburg in pre-season.

The Chelsea boss deemed the player surplus to requirement and was more than happy for their London rivals to take him off their hands for just £8million.

And with the Gunners to face bitter enemies Tottenham next week, Unai Emery knows he has a huge decision to make whether he sticks with Luiz, or drafts in Calum Chambers to replace him.

For all the good that Luiz does, his performance at Andfield proved that a leopard doesn't change its spots.

On a more positive note for the visitors, Nicolas Pepe was a real bright spark for Arsenal.

He was a constant nuisance for the Liverpool defence when he was on the ball and was unlucky not to have netted twice in the first half.

Constantly looking to beat his man, the Ivory Coast international showed why he simply has to start every league game.
