Euro 2016: Glum England stars arrive back at Chantilly base before Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy head off for a spot of golf

Stone-faced Roy Hodgson was clearly not in the mood for smiles as Gary Neville is charged with looking after toy lion

GLUM England players arrived back at their Chantilly base following last night's bore draw disaster against Slovakia.

A stone-faced Roy Hodgson ditched his usually jolly exterior after his Three Lions chucked away the chance to finish top of Group B.

The England boss' huge gamble backfired in Saint-Etienne as none of the six changes he made could break down Jan Kozak's men.

That enabled Wales to finish top of the table in their first major finals since 1958 and means England will face the runner-up from Group F.

Roy's boys were clearly still smarting from their failure to go through to the last-16 as winners.

Wayne Rooney frowned and stared at the ground as he alighted the team bus while Chris Smalling shot an icy glare.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson was not in the mood for laughs while Joe Hart walked back to camp with earphones in.

Gary Neville looked the only member of the England staff in decent spirits, smiling as he carried through one of the toy lion mascots the squad have.

Jack Wilshere, subbed ten minutes after the break for Rooney, carried another one of the lions.

Man United teen sensation Marcus Rashford kept his eyes trained on the floor after being left on the bench by Hodgson.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy put their frustrations behind them by heading straight for the driving range after they returned.

The England strikers then made it out onto the nearby course - although Vardy struggled to keep his ball on the short stuff as he was seen hacking out from deep rough.

England will find out their next opponents when Group F's standings are finalised tomorrow night.
