ROY HODGSON stunned FA chiefs with his mass changes for England’s final group game.

Senior FA members felt swapping six players for the goalless draw with Slovakia was totally unnecessary.

Yet Hodgson is ready to weigh in again with up to FIVE changes for Monday’s last-16 clash — even though it could end his hopes of leading England to the next World Cup.

Hodgson said: “We have a group of players who can play. We couldn’t have dominated that game more than we did with whatever team I put out.

“But we know our players and I know what team I’ll play next week if they are all fit.”

Hodgson, 68, is hoping to win a new deal with the FA as his current contract expires after the finals in France.

But Monday’s stalemate in Saint-Etienne saw the Three Lions finish second behind Wales — leaving a treacherous path in the knockout phase.

England learn tonight whether they face Hungary, Iceland, Portugal or Austria in the last 16.

Victory there is likely to set up a quarter-final with France in Paris.

And Spain’s shock loss to Croatia means they would be likely semi-final opponents.

Wales, on the other hand, face Northern Ireland or Albania next.

The decision to drop captain Wayne Rooney against Slovakia was a particular surprise.

Yet Hodgson, already angry with FA chairman Greg Dyke for suggesting he needs to reach the semis to land a new deal, insists he has ‘no regrets’ over his selection.
