Euro 2016: England to face Iceland in last 16 after late Arnor Traustason goal means Roy’s boys dodge Cristiano Ronaldo

ENGLAND will face Iceland in the second round at Euro 2016 on Monday night in Nice.

An injury-time winner from Arnor Traustason saw Iceland beat Austria 2-1 and advance to the last 16 as Group F runners-up.

For a while it looked like Portugal would be England's opponents on Monday, before the late winner for Iceland.

It means Roy Hodgson's side will avoid Cristiano Ronaldo, whose Portugal team finished third in Group F and will play Croatia in the second round.

Hungary went through as group winners after their 3-3 draw with Portugal in Lyon.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson gave Iceland the lead before Kevin Shopf equalised for Austria at the Stade de France.

Traustason then became Iceland's hero when he tapped in from close range on the counter-attack in injury time.

Portugal came back level three times against Hungary as it looked like the Three Lions would be taking on Selacao in the next round.

Nani levelled after Zoltan Gera's spectacular strike had given Hungary the lead.

Balazs Dzsudzsak then put Hungary ahead again but Cristiano Ronaldo got the equaliser with a neat flick - and made him the first player to score in four European Championships.

Dzsudzsak then netted again to put the Hungarians in the driving seat but Ronaldo nodded his side level once again.

Wales, meanwhile, will play Northern Ireland in their second-round match in Paris on Saturday.

Northern Ireland finished third in Group C and will travel to the Parc des Princes to face Chris Coleman's side in the last 16.

The pick of the last-16 ties will see reigning champions Spain face Italy on Monday night at the Stade de France.

The Italians topped their group ahead of Belgium, but Spain were beaten by Croatia in their final Group D clash which meant they finished as runners-up.

Croatia, meanwhile, will take on Portugal in Lens on Saturday night after winning Group D.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Co could only manage third place in Group F after three straight draws and finished behing Hungary and Iceland.

Hosts France, who England could meet in the quarter-final, will play Republic of Ireland in Lyon on Sunday.

That game will be followed by world champions Germany against Slovakia in Lille before Hungary face Belgium in Toulouse.
