Euro 2016: England set to replace Roy Hodgson with a member of the ‘Golden Generation’

ENGLAND are set to appoint a member of their ‘Golden Generation’ in a new-look management set-up.
The FA have started the search for Roy Hodgson’s replacement and will consider non-English candidates for the job.
England and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is a popular figure within the FA, while FA technical direc-tor Dan Ashworth — part of a three-man team looking to appoint the next boss — also speaks to former midfielder Scott Parker.
Rio Ferdinand, another member of the ‘Golden Generation’, has previously worked with England’s Under-16s, while Jamie Carragher has coached the Under-17s, Joe Cole the Under-18s and Steven Gerrard the Under-19s.
All of those players are likely to be keen to join a new-look backroom team for the Three Lions’ 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
FA vice-chairman David Gill and chief executive Martin Glenn are assisting Ashworth as he scours the globe for someone to drag England out of the doldrums.
Gill is a huge fan of Frenchman Laurent Blanc, who is now available after being sacked as boss of Paris Saint-Germain.
He steered France to the quarters of Euro 2012 and is used to dealing with big-name players, such as Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate has turned down the chance to take over the senior side on an interim basis.
That could be a relief for Gill, who has not always been in favour of the former Middlesbrough manager.
When Southgate got the Boro job in 2006, the Premier League had to sanction it because he did not have the required coaching badges.
The vote was passed 19-1 in favour with Gill voting against.
