WATFORD’S 3-1 victory over Manchester United was their first for 30 years.

Watford's last win came on September 16, 1986, when Graham Taylor’s side pushed Ron Atkinson nearer the Old Trafford exit door through a Iwan Roberts’ goal.
A lot has changed in the subsequent three decades - this was a time before the internet while only very few people were lucky enough to own a portable phone.

- Meanwhile, on the football front, Steaua Bucharest were the European champions — and Argentina had claimed their second World Cup victory in three editions.

- Michel Platini was the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, having claimed the award for a third consecutive year.

- While Boris Becker retained his Wimbledon men’s singles title and Martina Navratilova won a fifth consecutive women’s singles championship.
