Man Utd fans fear Dybala transfer pursuit ‘smacks of Di Maria’ after Argentine’s spectacular flop at Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED fans fear the club's pursuit of Paulo Dybala "smacks of Di Maria".

Dybala's fellow countryman Angel Di Maria went from Real Madrid hero to Old Trafford zero following his ill-fated move to the Reds in August 2014.

And United fans are dreading Dybala turning into another expensive flop.

The Juventus midfielder is refusing to take a 25 per cent wage cut imposed on the entire United squad after they failed to qualify for the Champions League.

SunSport revealed Dybala is holding out for £350,000-a-week with his representatives discussing personal terms ahead of a proposed swap deal for Romelu Lukaku.

And it seems like some United supporters don't want him anywhere near the club given Di Maria's failings.

One said: "Dybala almost being forced to United would be a stupid move by Woodward.

"Taking a player who doesn't really want to be at the club smacks of Di Maria."

Another posted: "Dybala very happy at Juve but apparently being forced out by Sarri to make way for Lukaku.

'DON'T NEED ANOTHER DI MARIA'

"I'm sorry to be negative but this might just scream Di Maria all over again if he does sign for us in that manner."

A fellow user wrote: "Dybala to United sounds exciting but I felt the same for Sanchez, Di Maria, Depay, so..."

One comment read: "What the blood clot is Dybala even coming to do at United? We're swapping a 20+ goal PL experienced striker for a Di Maria type of signing.

"I have seen this movie before."

Another tweeted: "If the reports are to be believed and Dybala only wants to join if he gets silly money, then we need to walk away now.

"We do not need another Di Maria/Sanchez situation. More signings like AWB and Dan James are needed - players who will give everything for the shirt."

One user said: "I bet Lukaku will find his form at Juve and Dybala will flop worse than Di Maria."

And another concerned fan said: "My biggest concern if Dybala agrees to join United will be the wages. It could be money over love of club again and then it will be Di Maria all over again."

Di Maria scored just three goals in 27 Premier League appearances for United after they paid a British transfer record fee of £59.7m to secure his move from the Bernabeu.

He joined PSG the following season for £44m and blamed Louis van Gaal for his failure in the Prem.
