Steve Mullen guides you through Wednesday's racing from Chester, Newton Abbot, Kelso, Bath and Chelmsford

CHESTER

REQUINTO DAWN has showed plenty of zip on his two runs so far and improved on his debut win when a close-up second at Musselburgh last time out. There was a good way back to the third there and that tricky track is a decent preparation for Chester.

TANSHOLPAN is interesting taking a marked step up in distance for this first run as a three-year-old. She showed lots of promise last term over a mile, winning her maiden before going close at Listed level. Trainer Roger Varian has made a decent start to the season and she looks a filly to watch over middle distances whatever happens here.

REFLEKTOR loves it around here and that counts for a lot at a venue that doesn’t suit many horses. he has a handy draw in stall four and was a close-up second on his two visits to this track last season. The ground could be a bit easier but he should hit the frame at a decent price. El Astronaute is far and away the biggest danger.
3.35
WHO DARES WINS won really well on his other visit to Chester and he can take this hike in class in his stride. He has since had an excellent record over hurdles and was an excellent third in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham last time out. He goes on any ground and Alan King’s horses are in excellent form.
4.05
STRADIVARIUS looks hard to beat provided he handles this tricky course. He won his maiden on the all-weather at Newcastle at the back end of last season in good style. He then left that form far behind when cantering to victory at Beverley on his seasonal comeback. That was over 1m2f but on breeding this extra trip should be right up his street. There should be a lot of improvement to come.
4.35
There was lots to like about the comeback run of MUTARABBY at Leicester 11 days ago. He travelled strongly there in finishing second with a fair way back to the third horse home. That was over this distance and he wouldn’t have to improve much to get off the mark here.
5.05
LAGENDA was snookered by the draw when fourth at Catterick last time - but it was still a good run to be beaten a length and a half. He has no such problems here having landed the plum position in stall one. He likes this trip and should go well off the same handicap mark.
