PIRATE LOOK was a winner on the Flat and looks capable of scoring over hurdles judged on his debut at Huntingdon last time. He jumped well enough there when finishing second and should come on plenty for the experience. Cosy Club has had three spins over timber and was far from disgraced when fourth at Hereford last time. It looks between the pair.

AWAY FOR SLATES ran a really good race when second on his last visit to Wetherby before Christmas. That was over this trip in a stronger contest on similar ground. His form has dipped since then but a return to this track against weak opposition gives him a chance of bouncing back.

CARALINE is a consistent performer who rarely runs a bad race so we can forgive her a modest effort at Carlisle last time. He had earlier won here and gone close on two other visits when there was some give in the ground. Today’s rider takes a valuable 5lb off and that could make a difference.

ISLE OF EWE made a perfect start to her hurdling career when winning on debut at Southwell. It was a surprise to see her finish sixth at Market Rasen last time. Richard Johnson took it easy on her once it was clear she wouldn’t win so she could have probably been closer. She’s had a little help from the handicapper and can bounce back today.

BOB MAHLER really should have got off the mark before now and it’s interesting to se he’s had a wind operation since his neck second at Newcastle last time. That could be the little push he needs to get over the line and Richard Johnson is the ideal man in the saddle.

Blakemount was sixth in the Scottish National last year and is having his first run since. So this is more than likely a prep for another visit to Ayr. That makes NORTONTHORPELEGEND the selection. He has put in a couple of modest runs which have seen him drop a little in the handicap, which will help in this tight race. He is fine over this trip and won’t mind the cut in the ground.

ZAMPARELLI returns to hurdling despite showing promise on his chasing bow at Southwell last time. He wasn’t asked too many questions there but it means he’s fit and has gained more experience. This looks a pretty weak race and he should have enough to get off the mark.
