MARCO BOTTI is planning to start Aljazzi's season off at Sandown in the Bet365 Mile later this month.

Botti's mare enjoyed a successful season last year winning a Group 3 contest and only being narrowly beaten at Royal Ascot in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.

The Newmarket handler said: "She is doing well and I am quite pleased with her. I am not in a rush with her and I will aim to get her out towards the end of April.

"This year we are going to take a different route and will probably go to the mile Group 2 at Sandown first or the Lockinge. At this stage, I would say we would go to Sandown, as she seems to handle the track well.

"The main early-season target would be the Duke of Cambridge, if all goes to plan. She would only run once before, at either Sandown or Newbury, not both."

He added: "I really want to just aim her at a handful of races through the season, to pick up some Group 1 black type as she is a filly that runs well fresh and does not really take a lot of racing."
