MULLEN IT OVER

Today’s FREE horse racing tips: Ayr, Ripon, Windsor and Wolverhampton – Steve Mullen’s betting preview for Monday, August 13

Steve Mullen guides you through Monday's racing at Ayr, Ripon, Windsor and Wolverhampton

Ripon

1.50
BERYL THE PETAL is overdue a win after some good efforts, including when third in a better race at Newmarket two runs ago.

She was again on the premises in fourth at Yarmouth latest and a repeat of that should be good enough.

Good Thyne Girl comes here on the back of winning a seller at Wolverhampton and needs a bit more for this, while Schnapps has shown promise on both starts and is another to consider.

2.20
MRS HOO built on her debut with a close-up third at Musselburgh last time out over 7f.

She was right there until being done for a little pace in the final furlong so this longer trip looks a wise move.

Karl Burke has two newcomers in Delectable and French Sonnet that both look similar on paper, so watch for any market moves.

Nina Petrovna’s all-weather form has been better than her turf efforts so far but her yard is in good nick.

2.55
STORMIN TOM went close over this trip at Catterick last time and can repeat his win in this race 12 months ago, albeit off 10lb higher in the weights.

That last effort shows that he can handle this mark and he gets on really well with today’s rider who was on board last year.

Dominating will find this easier than his effort well behind Lil Rockerfeller at Goodwood last time and we know he stays well.

The handicapper has also given him a little nudge south, which can’t hurt.

Chebsey Beau wasn’t disgraced over 2m at Doncaster last time and can hit the frame again.

RESTIVE SPIRIT didn’t enjoy the drop to 7f at Goodwood on handicap debut after earlier winning his maiden in style over this course and distance.

The William Haggas horses continue in good form and he should have a lot more to offer on just his fifth start.

Similar comments apply to Cold Stare who was down the field over 7f at Ascot after a good run at Haydock from 6lb higher in the weights.

Three Saints Bay has won his past two starts, both at Beverley, when he’s been able to skip clear and stay there. He’s creeping up the weights now but is progressive and looks threatening again.

3.55
BREATHABLE has been helped by the jar coming out of the ground with a second at Pontefract followed by a good win at Beverley last time.

He looks the type to enjoy this step up in distance and can progress again.

Roundhead has a similar profile and had plenty in hand when winning at Musselburgh last time. A repeat of that would see him go close despite a 6lb rise in the weights.

Sempre Presto has tried different trips but did well over this one when second at Pontefract last time and has had a little help from the handicapper.

4.30
DUTCH COED won a similar race to this three starts ago and was unlucky not to finish closer than fifth at Hamilton last time. He was knocked sideways at a crucial stage before finishing strongly. He’s off the same mark today which gives him a solid chance.

Lily Ash kept digging for more when holding off the challengers to score at Yarmouth last time. A 4lb rise for that success gives here a chance of striking again.

Foxy Rebel has his quirks but is only 2lb higher than when winning at Nottingham in June and he likes this trip.
