Free horse racing tips for today: Lingfield, Chelmsford, Warwick and Huntingdon – Steve Mullen’s betting preview for Thursday, October 4

WARWICK

2.10

TOPOFTHECOTSWOLDS is an interesting recruit to hurdling after showing bits and pieces of form in bumpers.

He has a hood on for this debut over timber and he has the scope for plenty of improvement for his in-form trainer.

1

Lissycasey ran well enough at Uttoxeter last time but was much better when second at Warwick and looks capable of winning a race like this.

2.45

PONTRESINA has winning form in the pointing field and has shown some promise over hurdles too, particularly when third at Fontwell last time out.

He shapes as though staying will be his game and, while fences may suit better, this isn’t the strongest race.

Casemates Squire already looks better over hurdles than he did on the level and improved on his debut when fourth at Uttoxeter last time out.

3.15

MARIA’S BENEFIT was a prolific hurdles winner who was good enough to strike in top handicaps and Grade 2 level.

She finished with a fourth in the Dawn Run at Cheltenham, which is several notches ahead of today’s two rivals.

She has won a point-to-point so should take to the bigger obstacles. Should there be any problems, Knocknanuss could be the one to cash in.

3.50

CHIEFTAIN’S CHOICE won well at Stratford in August and all but followed up from his higher mark at Southwell last time.

He was pipped in a photo there having also been upped to this distance. A repeat of that would see him go very close.

Voodoo Doll went well for today’s 7lb claimer at Uttoxeter and should be competitive, while Play The Ace showed promise over fences last time and has solid hurdles form.

4.20

THOMAS CRAPPER didn’t have the best of times last season but has dropped to 8lb below his last win, which came in a much stronger race than this.

He is suited by this distance and anything like his true form should be good enough.

Templehills made mistakes at Uttoxeter last time but won well at Fakenham two starts before so should be thereabouts again.

4.55

SOIESAUVAGE won despite being out of the weights at Uttoxeter last time so carries a 7lb penalty and is still 3lb less than that success.

That must give her every chance with Paddy Brennan keeping the ride. She likes this trip and is dropping in class for good measure.

Solstalla chased her home last time and looks the main danger again.
