Steve Mullen guides you through Friday's racing at Newbury, Lingfield, Doncaster and Newcastle

NEWBURY
1.45
BADDESLEY PRINCE improved when second at Plumpton last time and starts of handicapping from what looks a pretty fair mark.
The winner of that race has won since and this step up from 2m looks another wise move.
Crystal Lad put a long run of poor form behind him when finishing second at Market Rasen last time and looks well weighted thanks to his rider’s 10lb claim.
Ey Up Rocky didn’t get going at Huntingdon last time on the back of two good seconds. A return to his best form would give him a chance.
2.20
FALDO won on the level in Germany and shaped well on his first start for these top connections when second at Warwick on his hurdling debut last time.

He should improve for that outing and it wouldn’t take a lot more to win.
Christopher Wood impressed in soft ground on his first spin over hurdles at Fontwell. He won with something in hand so could defy a penalty.
Brandy James is getting the hang of things and has been in the places on all three of his hurdles run.
This is tougher than Uttoxeter last time but he’s not out of it.
2.50
AWAKE AT MIDNIGHT didn’t enjoy going right-handed at Kempton last time on the back of a win at Chepstow and excellent fourth at Exeter.
Dropping back to this distance won’t be a problem and he’ll be happier going this way.
Eddiemaurice was a decent hurdler and returned to chasing with a solid third at Ludlow last time. He needs to build on that but is capable of doing so.
Instant Replay probably won’t be suited by this lesser distance after winning over further at Sedgefield last time but is in excellent form and should run well again.
3.25
EMITOM has not put a foot wrong so far in winning two bumpers and two hurdles contests in excellent style. He had much more than the official margin of five lengths when scoring at Lingfield last time and a double penalty shouldn’t stop him scoring again.
Tidal Flow was thrown in a Grade 2 at Warwick last time after winning a couple of similar races to this without breaking sweat. He’s still learning the game with this trip and track ideal.
He could bounce back, while Gallaghers Cross was useful in bumpers and showed promise on his hurdles debut when fourth at Ascot last time.
STRIKE ACTION ARC could be hit by three days of boycotts over prize-money
3.55
JABULANI looked much happier back over hurdles after a couple of modest chase outings. He goes off the same mark today and has every chance if seeing out this longer distance.
Skidoosh has been consistent and grabbed a deserved win at Doncaster last time after a run of placed efforts. He’s got a 7lb penalty for that but should be in the shake-up again given he’s a proven stayer.
His Dream won at Warwick well two starts ago and was a good third at Doncaster last time. His claimer’s 5lb claim will help today.
4.30
ORCHARDSTOWN CROSS got the job done well at Taunton last time with a comfortable eight-length success. He stays this trip well and a 7lb penalty isn’t enough to dent confidence.
Royal Magic showed positive signs when third at Kempton last time out. He shapes as though this slightly longer distance will be ideal.
Cesar Et Rosalie loved the mud when winning at Uttoxeter last time and has chances again despite a 7lb rise in the weights.
5.00
GETARIVER has a penalty for winning at January last time but she had eight lengths in hand so could easily defy that. She shapes as though stepping up to 2m will bring further improvement too.
Swincombe Wiz is bred for this game and any market support on this debut would be interesting.
