JON JONES finally settled the score with Alexander Gustafsson as the American defeated his rival at UFC 232 after three rounds.
Jones was taken to the wire against Gustafsson at UFC 165 five years ago, with the rematch being demanded ever since.
Gustafsson got his shot at redemption at UFC 232 however, Jones put to bed any doubts that may have been cast in 2013.
The fight got off to a cagey start, though it was clear Jones had learnt from his mistakes in the first fight as he stayed out of Gustafsson’s boxing range to pick off his opponent.
Jones’ bodykicks and creative elbows were enough to take the opening round as Gustafsson’s renowned footwork was nowhere to be seen as he quite frankly looked stuck in the mud.
In round two Gustafsson began to commit more as he went after Jones but again the former champion utilised his world class kicking ability.
Unlike in the first fight, Jones took advantage of his takedown as he mounted Gustafsson and went to work.
Initially looking for a submission Jones reverted to aggressive pound and ground brawling as he looked to end the fight there and then.
After a succession of clubbing hooks to the down and out Gustafsson the fight was waved off and Jones once again looked like the greatest fighter to grace the UFC.
Despite never losing his belt, Jones is now a three-time light-heavyweight champion and the question now remains the same.
After the fight Jones announced he is well and truly back, and challenged his greatest rival, Daniel Cormier, to come and claim the title he relinquished this week ahead of the UFC 232 main-event.
Jones said: "Daddy's home, DC. Prove to the fans you're the champ champ. Come get a taste. I'm here. Get your belt back.”
