Rio Olympics 2016: Russian track and field athletes banned after unsuccessful appeal over doping sanctions
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected the Russian Olympic Committee's appeal and it could yet get worse

RUSSIAN athletes will not be appearing at Rio 2016 after their ban was upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The Russian Olympic Committee had appealed on behalf of the 68 athletes banned from this summer's game after widespread doping was revealed.

But the plea was rejected and the ban will stay in force.
The International Olympic Committee is considering calls to ban all Russian competitors from the Games following a second report into doping.
The International Association of Athletics Federations released a statement praising the decision.
It read: "Today’s judgment has created a level playing field for athletes.
"The Cas award upholds the rights of the IAAF to use its rules for the protection of the sport, to protect clean athletes and support the credibility and integrity of competition.”
