Rio Olympics 2016: Cycling star Laura Trott’s sister Emma slammed as ‘jealous’ after awkward interview

LAURA TROTT may have won quadruple gold in Rio and been celebrated by everyone in Britain for her cycling successes - but it clearly did not go down well by a member of her own family.

Trott's older sister Emma has been slammed as "bitter" and "jealous" after giving a painfully awkward interview to Good Morning Britain where she seemed less than excited by her sibling's efforts.

When asked about Laura's childhood and how her win has affected the Trott family, Emma appeared cold on the topic and clearly pointed out she had to work as a self-employed person.

Personal trainer Emma revealed she did not watch her sister, who became Britain's most successful Olympian, win her golds.

Speaking from New Zealand, she said: "I was working, so I'm self employed. If I don't work then I don't make money."

"Laura’s not worked any harder than anybody else has, everyone works hard to get to the level in which them 24 riders were at, but it was the hours of sacrifice, not just that we made from not going to school discos or going out with friends or the sacrifices that mum and dad made for us."

"The amount of times that Laura kicked up a fuss on hills because dad and I were dropping her, and she said, ‘if you don’t slow down I’m going to ring mum, she can come and pick me up’.

"And I think back to them moments and I think how on earth was she the one that made it to be Olympic champion, you know?

"It’s incredible the amount that you go through, and the mental toughness, the stress, the anxiety, the can’t have the Christmas dinners etc etc.

"Sport is the only thing you do 24 hours, seven days a week, everyone else gets weekends, that doesn’t exist for a full time athlete."

Emma then went on to say Laura and her fiance Jason Kenny, who last night equally Sir Chris Hoy's record of most Olympic golds for Team GB, will not be any more famous than before.

She added: "They'll just be Laura and Jason and thats what I love about them. Yes they'll be noticed but will they be anymore more noticed than they were after London, probably not."

Before Laura's big race in the Omnium, Emma tweeted stating that she'd hoped being in New Zealand would mean she would be able to avoid talking about her sister, but that clearly did not happen as Twitter users labelled Emma "embarrassing".

But in a series of tweets this morning, the criticism was quashed by Laura herself who said Emma was one of her "biggest supporters" growing up and that she idolised her older sister.
