The annual celebration of sporting achievement over the last 12 months takes place once again as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award show returns for 2025. 

Among the six shortlisted contenders there is newly crowned F1 World Champion Lando Norris, PDC Darts World Champion Luke Littler, 2025 Masters Golf Champion Rory McIlroy, and Lionesses winger Chloe Kelly.

Six contenders will battle for the award, and the significant betting favourite on the eve of the event is Ulsterman Rory McIlroy, with odds of 4/7. F1 Champion Lando Norris follows at odds at 29/10, with Chloe Kelly following at 18/5.

The other contenders' odds are significantly longer, with Luke Littler following at 28/1, Ellie Kildunne at 40/1, and Hannah Hampton the rank outsider at odds of 50/1.

Rory McIlroy - Won the 2025 Masters trophy in golf, which was his 5th Major and first since 2014.

Lando Norris - Won his first F1 Driver's Championship with McLaren, beating the formidable reigning four-time champion Max Verstappen.

Chloe Kelly - Lionesses' winger played a key role in England winning the 2025 European Championships, defending their title from 2021.

Luke Littler - Won the PDC Darts Championship at age 17 and claimed the number 1 darts ranking.

Ellie Kildunne - Played key role in England's victory in Women's Rugby World Cup, scoring five tries including two in the semi-finals and one in the final.

Hannah Hampton - Lionesses' goalkeeper played key role in England's Euros victory, and won the women's Yashin Trophy for best goalkeeper in women's football.
