Petition to create ‘Baby Yoda’ emoji racks up 11,000 signatures from Star Wars Mandalorian fans

A PETITION to create a 'Baby Yoda' emoji has racked up more than 11,000 signatures.
The beloved creature is a leading character in Disney's Star Wars: The Mandalorian TV series.
After making a surprise appearance at the end of the first episode, 'Baby Yoda' quickly became a cultural icon.
His adorable baby-like features and cute on-screen antics have made him the subject of memes and earned him legions of fans.
Even the 'Baby Yoda' name is a fan creation – as the character is known only as 'the child' in the TV series.
Now one enamoured fan is petitioning Apple to create a 'Baby Yoda' emoji to honour the Star Wars icon.
The petition was created by Star Wars lover Travis Bramble, who has attracted over 11,000 signers so far – with a goal of 15,000 total.
"I think Baby Yoda should be an emoji," writes Travis in his .
"He stole our hearts and now I want him to steal our keyboard space.
"Join me in this movement and let your voices be heard."
Fans who have signed the petition are desperate to see the emoji made real.
One wrote: "Baby Yoda brings happiness to everyone no matter who they are."
Another said: "Just think of how many times we would use this. I mean Baby Yoda would fit in any conversation."
And one glumly noted: "My girlfriend told me to sign it."
We've asked Apple if there are any plans to create a Baby Yoda emoji and will update this story with any response.
However, it's important to note that Apple doesn't actually make emoji on its own.
Emoji are created by the Unicode Consortium, and then developed and introduced by members including Apple, Adobe, Facebook, Google, IBM, Netflix, Huawei and Microsoft.
The Mandalorian first aired on November 12, 2019 on the new Disney+ streaming service.
The series takes place five years after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, and stars Pedro Pascal as the titular Mandalorian.
Pascal's Mandalorian is a lone bounty hunter earning a living in the outer reaches of the galaxy.
Disney's first season will contain eight episodes, and a second season has already been ordered.
