Is Steam down? How to check problems and updates

GAMING marketplace Steam has crashed for hundreds of users, according to reports.

Nearly 900 gamers across the US and UK have been locked out of the app and website due to server issues.

The company has not made a statement on the outage, and its server status website doesn't suggest there were any planned works

Is Steam down?

Gamers are being met with a message saying: "There was a problem communicating with Steam. Please try again later.

"You can try running Steam in Offline Mode."

The company has not made a statement on the outage, and its server status website doesn't suggest there were any planned works.

Instead, Steam writes on its server site: "There have been an increased amount of page views on this site in the past hour, this could indicate an issue with Steam."

Reports of Steam being down most recently occurred on August 22 and August 19, 2023.

X (formerly Twitter) users have taken to the platform to complain that they were unable to use the Steam app as normal.

"Steam down again for the 100000th time this year lol," one user .

Another : "Steam is down. I am in despair. I can’t live without my games.

"I tried to do other things, but nothing is fun. I read a book, but it was boring. I watched a movie, but it was bad. I baked a cake, but it was burnt."

The site  - which tracks apps and websites' statuses - reported that a number of users began experiencing issues with the app at around 9:30 EST (2:30pm BST).

Over 70 per cent of users reported problems with server connection.

Some of the issues being reported are:

  • Having trouble logging into your account
  • Not being able to make purchases
  • Items taking too long to load or download
  • Slow connection
