Spotify down updates — Thousands of users say app and webpage aren’t working leaving commuters in silence

SPOTIFY users are reporting that the app is not working or letting them play music.

Thousands of users reported at 9am ET on Thursday that the and webpage may be down.

Commuters who were left in silence quickly reacted to the news, saying "I can't live without Spotify."

Another user added: "If this keeps happening in tempted to switch music services."

  • How to know if malfunction is device or app issue

    If you're having trouble accessing Spotify and the app isn't down, there may be a problem with your device.

    According to Spotify Support, check the following features to make sure your device isn't the problem,

    • Your device is supported for Spotify and up-to-date
    • Your device has at least 250MB of available memory
    • Your firewall isn’t blocking Spotify (desktop only)
    • Your device's battery is sufficiently charged
    • Your SD card is not causing problems, try removing it (Android only)

    Spotify recommends the following solutions to troubleshoot a stalled account,

    • Restart the Spotify app
    • Update the app
    • Reinstall the app (Note: you need to re-download any downloaded music and podcasts after reinstalling the app)
    • Make sure your internet connection is stable
    • Update your device’s operating system
    • Close any other apps you aren't using
    • Clear cache on your device

    One user shared on Twitter that they lost all their downloading songs when attempting to restart the app.

    They said: "i deleted and reinstalled the app in attempt to fix the issue i wasnt aware of and i lost my downloaded songs i cant breathe."

  • 'Cannot play current song'

    Some users are seeing an error message that reads, "cannot play current song" whenever they use Spotify.

    One user tweeted: "my desktop app nor my web browser will work. It continues to say 'cannot play current song' and the web browser wouldn’t even open my home page.

    "One song loaded but when I play another it doesn’t work.I hope the issue is resolved soon because this gal needs her work music."

    Spotify users are threatening to switch to Apple Music on Twitter.

    One user stated: "Apple Music might be a move."

    Another added: "apple music would never."

  • Many users aren't able to play a full song

    Many Spotify users reported that they could only play a song for a few seconds before the app shuts off.

    One user tweeted: "App is an issue as well. Get 10 seconds of a song before it just shuts off."

    Another added: "Thanks; every song stops after 4-6 seconds and then says 'cant play this song right now.'"

    Android users have not been able to use Spotify on their mobile devices this morning.

    One user shared on Twitter: "I can't log in to my desktop app! My Android app isn't working either, and the webpage won't play my music! Is it a waste of money?"

    Another user commented their Andriod app was also down.

    Spotify users are taking to Twitter to ask tech support for an estimated time to expect the app back up.

    Spotify Cares, Spotify Status, and Spotify USA have yet to let users know when the problems would be resolved.

    Another shared: "I can’t get the website to work and when I play a song on the desktop app and switch tabs like I normally do to do other stuff while I listen it stops playing the music and won’t play anything else."

    Users in the UK have reported that their issues with Spotify mainly have to do with Audio Streaming.

    80 percent of users reported problems with Audio Streaming, 15 percent reported issues with the app, and five percent said they are having trouble with the website.

    A Roku user has also reported issues with the app.

    "Spotify on Roku just stopped working 20 minutes ago," they wrote on .

    "You can still see the titles but nothing happens when you press play."

  • Some say it's OK in US, but UK still struggling

    While some Spotify users are reporting that the app is working for them now in the US, those in the UK aren't having as much luck.

    According to , over 1,500 users reported issues in the UK this morning.

    Users have reported Spotify issues on several devices including PS4, PS4, and Xbox.

    One user reported: "Spotify for desktop is not playing properly. It plays fine in desktop browser and mobile app."

  • Some users experiencing same issues on other devices

    While the issue reports are primarily coming from app users, those using devices such as PS4 are also struggling.

    "Spotify on ps4 is not streaming any music no matter what song i choose. i logged in and out, restarted my entire console, and reinstalled spotify but no luck," they said.

  • Users say app is down

    Spotify users have been reporting that the app is down.

    "Webplayer is not streaming any audio. I can browse through playlists and musics, but it won't play anything," one user said.
