FACEBOOK users who buy and sell items through the social media platform have been warned over a strange verification code request.
One woman on TikTok has raised the alarm on the mysterious scam.
TikToker @shayclick, who's a frequent seller on the app, was trying to sell a sofa for her friend.
Having posted the sofa on multiple buy and sell pages in the area, Shay reads the messages from interested buyers and passes their phone numbers onto her friend.
Shay continued: "[My friend] text one lady and the lady responded and goes 'Hey, I need the verification code to prove that you're real from Facebook.'
"So, she messages me and she's like 'Hey, do you have a verification code? This lady needs to prove that you're a real person.'"
But there is no such thing as verification codes for Facebook Marketplace, or any other buying and selling page.
The friend automatically gets "weirded" out by the request, thinking it might be a scam.
When she tries calling the lady, the call couldn't connect.
Then the friend receives a verification code text to her phone - but it's wise not to pass it on.
It's unclear what the purpose of the scam is, but plenty of people in the comments of Shay's video had experienced something similar.
Some say it's because they're trying to hack into your Facebook account, while others think it could be your email account that's the target.
Either way, cut contact and find a new buyer.
