How to delete a PlayStation Network account
Some people might be considering deleting their PlayStation Network account after 2023's Sony data breach by a Russian cybercrime gang.
Whatever your reason, it is possible to close your Sony PlayStation Network (PSN) account.
But you'll lose all the data associated with it — including purchases.
If you want to delete your PSN account you'll have to get in touch with Sony.
Before going ahead, make sure you have your email sign-in ID, as well as your online ID to hand.
To inform Sony that you want to delete your account, you need to use the Contact Support option, which you can access it from .
Click on Account & Security, then select Change online ID & other account questions.
You'll have to scroll down to the live chat, which is open from 10am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

Can I restore my deleted PSN account?
Once your data is deleted from PSN it's not possible to restore it.
As Sony's website explains:
PlayStation fans are getting three classic PS2 games for free
- The closed account's online ID cannot be used to create another account.
- You will lose access to any content purchased using the account. This content cannot be transferred to another account, and refunds can only be given in line with the PlayStation Store cancellation policy.
- You will lose access to any subscriptions and their associated entitlements.
- You will lose access to your PSN wallet. Funds in your wallet cannot be returned, as stated in the Terms of Service.

What happens to my PSN data if I delete my account?
Once you go through with an account deletion, all data stored on Sony's servers will be purged for good.
All games and media purchased through PSN will become inaccessible upon the deletion of the account.
This applies even if the associated game is still "on" the console.
Users who delete their accounts also lose access to the content they have purchased, as well as their histories.
