META has urged WhatsApp users to update their app today to fix a bug that automatically saves photos twice instead of just the once.
Thousands of users have complained about it on social media and customer support channels in recent days, saying it has made it a "constant battle" to manage their storage.
In an Apple community support discussion, one iPhone owners garnered more than 8,700 votes from people who had experienced the same issue.
The bug affects WhatsApp 'automatically save to camera roll' feature, which downloads all images shared inside the app into a users' photo album.
But image saves have doubled, eating into a phone's storage space.
We're rolling out a fix to users, and recommend all those affected to download the latest version of the app.

It also cannot be fixed by simply switching off the feature, users claim.

"I thought my new iPhone hacked or something. This is annoying!," they on Reddit.
Another replied: "Been having this exact same issue. It’s driving me nuts."
While a third user wrote: "Same here, started happening yesterday.
"Might be some recent update with a bug. Probably gonna be corrected soon."

At first, iPhone owners believed the issue was caused by Apple's latest update iOS 17.4, which rolled out on 5 March.
But Apple pointed iPhone owners towards WhatsApp's customer support channels, as more people experiencing the bug said they hadn't updated to the latest iOS yet.
A Meta spokesperson told The Sun: "We're aware that a small number of iPhone users are having issues when receiving media whereby it's saving twice to their camera roll.
"We're rolling out a fix to users, and recommend all those affected to download the latest version of the app."
It comes a little more than a week after Meta was plagued by outages, primarily affecting its Facebook and Instagram platforms.
Millions of users worldwide were left believing they had been hacked while having issues with their Facebook and Instagram connections.
