APPLE has revealed new augmented reality software for its iPads and iPhones.

The technology powers games like Pokemon Go, the hugely popular smartphone app.

It announced a new ARkit during its World Wide Developer Conference this evening.

It wants developers to use the kit to make incredibly realistic apps that use augmented reality so Apple fans can place and interact with virtual objects in their surroundings.

"Hundreds of millions of iPhones and iPads" will support ARKit, making it the biggest AR platform in the world from launch.

Developers took to the stage to show some impressive demonstrations of what's in store.

They revealed a sharper, more stable version of Niantic's Pokemon Go on the iPhone.

Developers will get their hands on the ARKit later this year - and some snazzy new apps should follow soon after.

Apple has been making lots of juicy announcements during its annual developer conference.

It has shown off a new version of the software which powers iPhones and iPads as well as an upgrade for Apple Watch.

Cheaper and more powerful iMacs and MacBooks are also ready to ship at a cheaper price than ever.
