Xbox fan called Ligma has 12-year-old username forcibly changed after Ninja death hoax

AN Xbox fan has reported that Microsoft forcible changed his online username thanks to a death hoax related to Fortnite-streaming superstar Ninja.
Posting on Reddit under the username CaptainOfAwesome, the self-proclaimed "gamerdad" revealed how his 12-year-old gamertag -- the username players are known by on Microsoft's Xbox Live online system -- had been changed from Ligma to AngryKitten1025 without any notice.
He reports that he had custom controllers with his erstwhile name printed on them, which he has "cherished throughout the years."
CaptainOfAwesome also said that he had pride and emotional attachment to the username, which came from a previous character he had created for the massively multiplayer online title Guild Wars.
He started using Ligma "since sometime around the Halo 2 era of the [original] Xbox", some time between 2004 (when Halo 2 was released) and late 2007 (when Halo 3 came out for Xbox 360).
Things started to go wrong "a few months ago" when he started being bombarded with messages asking if he was unwell, if he was infectious, and "references to unmentionable body parts."
Puzzled, he explored the mystery and discovered the Ligma hoax, a puerile meme related to popular Fortnite streamer Tyler 'Ninja' Blevins.
It started as an Instagram hoax announcing Ninja's death from the disease. The basis of the meme is that puzzled users would then ask what Ligma was -- to which those in on the 'joke' would respond 'ligma balls'.

Thankfully, Xbox community head honcho Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb stepped in and saw that Ligma was restored to its rightful owner.
However, his wife -- who went by MrsLigma -- is still waiting to have her gamertag restored.
