iPhone Measure app could create new ‘era of d**k pics’ – but people are using new iOS 12 feature on their cats instead
An app that was probably designed for construction workers and interior designers has been hijacked by cat lovers

A NEW iPhone app that measures real-world objects could revolutionise the humble "d**k pic", according to Twitter users.
But right now, it's mostly been used by people who want to measure the size of their cats.
The Measure app became available last night, as part of Apple's iOS 12 update for iPhones and iPads.
It uses clever camera technology to determine distances, giving you reasonably accurate read-outs of how long or wide objects are.
Now Twitter is being flooded with screenshots of people measuring their cats.
People are uploading cute pics of their moggies, showing off the size of their heads and bodies.
Apple probably intended the Measure app to be used for wholesome activities, like carpentry or home redecoration.
After all, the app comes bundled with a virtual spirit level that lets you check if surfaces are straight.
This uses your iPhone's accelerometer, tracking how your Apple handset is titled across three different axis.
For now, it seems that cats are the main target of Measure app users.
But it's unlikely that Apple's new software will be used for cat-measuring alone.
Apple fans on Twitter are already warning over the effect this will have on "d**k pics", photos of male genitals sent over the internet.
One user said: "The iPhone update's Measure app begins the Renaissance era of d**k pics #iOS 12."
Another noted that some men may be in for troubled times: "Good luck with those no frame of reference no hands d**k pics guys...if she's got an iPhone...she knows exactly how big it is."
How to get and use Measure app on iPhone
Getting the app is simple – all you need to do is download the iOS 12 update.
If you're not sure about how to do that, follow our guide on how to update your iPhone.
Once you've got iOS 12, the Measure app will be installed on your phone automatically.
To use it, simply point the camera at the object you're trying to measure. If it's a easily-trackable shape, Measure will automatically measure the width and length, and even calculate the object's surface area.

Alternatively, you can create your own lines and shapes by using the big Plus button on the screen.
This will let you drag end points around your viewfinder, letting your measure objects that aren't picked up automatically.
You can also use the Circle icon to take pictures of what you're measuring, so you can upload your own cute photos of animals you've measured.
