Want to change PSN name? Sony tipped to FINALLY let you edit your PlayStation username
You might soon get to ditch that rubbish online tag you've been lumbered with for 12 years...

PLAYSTATION fans may be in for a long-awaited treat – the ability to change your PSN name.
It's never been possible, but rumour has it Sony will soon let you edit your username.
Many gamers will still be using terribly awkward usernames they picked when they were far younger.
But unlike rival Xbox, PlayStation doesn't offer the ability for users to change their PlayStation network username.
But that might not be true for much longer.
A new report by gaming site says sources at three different game studios that develop for PlayStation say username changes are coming.
According to the unnamed sources, they're having to tweak settings to make sure their games are compatible with Sony's username editing system.
A fourth source reportedly shared a photo from internal Sony documentation that showed a PSN profile with the option "edit username".
The document is alleged to be a guide on how to change your username on the PlayStation Network.
However, Kotaku didn't share this image – so we can't verify that the claims are true.
There's also no word on when the change will happen, although the report notes that the fix is "time-consuming and difficult".
This is said to be because Sony originally designed your account ID to link to your username rather than a unique universal identifier – making it difficult to change.
But if editing usernames does become an option, it'll be very welcome.
Sony launched the PlayStation Network way back in 2006, so it's possible some users will be using online monikers they picked 12 years ago.
That means a 25-year-old gamer would've been 13 years old at the time, and may not necessarily have a representative username.
