Fortnite 8.0 patch notes revealed as Epic Games launches pirate-themed season eight
The game went down at 9am UK time so that Epic can apply the updates needed to bring season 8 and its nautically criminalA goodness into the world
A huge volcano has arrived on Fortnite's Battle Royale island as it takes leaves from both Sea of Thieves and Apex Legends' books for season 8.
The game went down for a "larger than usual" patch at 0900 UK time, when Epic revealed all about what was to come in the coming weeks.

There are more rewards than ever for Battle Pass buyers, with the Blackheart and Hybrid progressive outfits unlocked from the get-go.
The rewards will also be much easier to get, as you can FINALLY complete the challenges cooperatively with your squad.
You will be able to choose a daily or weekly challenge before you start, and you and your friends' progress towards the goal with count for all of you at once.
Map changes have brought in Sunny Steps and Lazy Lagoon alongside the volcano.
That's not all, according to Epic, who claim "there are tons of new areas to explore and secrets to uncover. This season, X marks the spot!"

A whole bunch of stuff has been removed from the game, including the Storming planes, shopping karts and ATKs.
The winter-themed Sneaky Snowman and Chiller Grenade have also both been vaulted.
The volcano and its thermal vents provide new challenges and movement options though -- lava now harms players and bounces them off itself, while vents can blast players up into the air.
One new tool will be very familiar to anyone who has played Apex Legends -- Fortnite now has its own 'ping' system.
This means you can tag items and places of interest and instantly alert your teammates to them with a button press.
They they'll not only know what you've seen, but see exactly where it is, rather than needing to decipher your mumblings and work out exactly which bush that gun is the left of.
