Fortnite patch notes – Reboot vans land alongside treasure-filled Buccaneer’s Bounty challenges

THE worst-kept secret in gaming is finally official -- Fortnite's respawn vans are finally live.

Officially called Reboot Vans, they will let you revive fallen friends when you're playing as a team.

The feature is very similar to one of Fortnite rival Apex Legends core ideas, though developer Epic Games says the idea had been in the works for some time.

Another big addition is the new Sit Out feature, which paradoxically might just make the game even harder to put down.

It will let players stay in a party, and keep on chatting to their friends, but not actually have to play the game.

"For example, with three players in a party and one Sitting Out, the remaining two can select and queue for a Duos match," according to the notes.

You will be able to keep on chatting using the normal voice channel even while they play -- then flick a switch in the menu to re-join the party properly for the next game when you're ready.

Another change that's causing controversy is more technical -- all players on PC and Mac will now have the same field of view.

Previously, some competitive players with large screens had been exploiting the game's settings to display the game at 'stretched' resolutions to be able to see more of what was going on around them.

In the near future, all competitive play will also be locked to a maximum aspect ratio of 16:9, so those with ultra-wide monitors don't gain an unfair advantage.

Fortnite's latest patch also brings the Buccaneer’s Bounty event.

Players will get a new limited-time game mode to play every day, and completing the challenges that come with them will award in-game rewards.

Treasure maps will drop twice as often during the event, which runs from today until next Monday, April 15.

That's not the only event going on this weekend though, as the Fortnite World Cup Online Open Week 1 kicks off on Saturday, April 13.

Epic is putting £760,000 ($1 million) up for grabs for every week's worth of qualifiers that lead up to the final in New York this July.

If you want to be in with a shot you need to have reached Champion League in Arena, which will allow you to compete on Saturday.

The top 3,000 players from each region will then go on to Sunday's qualifier proper.

You can't double-dip -- you're locked to the region you enter your first game from for the entire weekend.

Away from the competitive world of Battle Royale, Creative Mode is getting a Military Base Theme and tools to build capture-the-flag style games and two new Tropical Islands.

You can see the full list of changes .

Elsewhere in the gaming world there's news of a new ‘dark’ Star Wars game where Jedi are hunted set to be revealed this weekend, we reveal why now is the best time ever to start playing Sea of Thieves, and why the PS5 and Xbox 2 might be the last games consoles you're ever tempted to buy.
